Day 3: Thamukkam Exhibition
Thamukkam is famous for its big and vast ground. In this ground exhibitions of home appliances, books, accessories will be displayed for public sale.Such exhibitions will be conducted only during the long holidays like summer holidays, Christmas holidays etc. Sometimes to make it more interesting they will have a theme for the exhibition. This time it is the’ 7 wonders of the world.’ This is the only place I visit every year with my family.I love the Book exhibitions and I’ll never miss them. My parents love the Ideal home exhibition wherein home appliances are exhibited.Added to it the exhibition also has a fun part.
After visiting the World Tamil Sangam I came here.It was around 7pm. I would say 7pm to 10pm is the best time to visit such thematic exhibitions because the place will be glowing bright with colourful lights. An amount of rupees 30 have to be paid as an entry fee.
And now you’ll be seeing the wonders of the world being shifted and placed in Madurai.’
1.The Great Wall of China
We might have studied a lot about The Great Wall of China in our General Knowledge books. It is said that it can be seen even from Space. It was built in 7th century BC to protect China from invasions from various countries.
You could see a long queue of people entering the model of The Great wall of China.
It is also said that many workers were burried under the wall as they fell dead when they were working.I think in order to give the model an eerie effect they had designed the inner walls with such horror images.
2. Eiffle Tower
Everyone desires to visit Paris at least once in their life time. Eiffle tower is 324 meters tall and it was named after the engineer Gustave Eiffle, who designed this tower.
I would really appreciate the one who made this model it was so beautiful.I just cant take my eyes off it. The blue light adds to it beauty.
3.Empire State Building
The Empire State Building in New York, has 102 storeys at a height of 381 meters including its antenna. The antenna is missing in the model.
You could see a family posing for the photograph.I like this photograph because it looks as if they are posing for my camera.
4.Leaning Tower of Pisa
The leaning tower of Pisa is the bell tower, of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa.It is known world wide for its tilted structure. It is not leaning but actually falling at a rate of one to two millimeters per year.
Rome, the romantic city has the largest amphitheater, Colosseum. It was built in 80 AD.It can occupy 50,000 spectators.
You could see the people crowded around this model of Colosseum.
6.The Great Pyramid
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza pyramid, Egypt. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the World, and the only one to remain largely intact.
This is a model of the limestone statue of a sphinx, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human.
7.Christ the Redeemer
It was built in 1931 and it is of 38 meters tall with the backdrop of Rio de Janeiro.
8.The Taj Mahal
A monument of Love constructed by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife. The beautiful white marble and its romantic nature attracts people from all over the world.
The artists who had made this model worked hard to bring out even the minute details. They had taken pains to draw all the inscriptions as it is on the Taj Mahal.
The Fun part:
I had a great time there.I felt that there could have been a write up about each wonder so that it would have been easy for the people to know. Many people were shouting “Hey what’s this? and what’s that?” Many didn’t know Christ the redeemer and The Empire State building. Overall it was wonderful and I was so excited to see all the world wonders in a single place.
